Directly across the square from Stephansdom is the Haas Haus. Designed by the architect Hans Hollein it caused controversy when it was first unveiled in 1990, now however it has generally been accepted as a integral part of the square. The facade is mostly glazed, which gives it a light feel and reflects views of the Stephansdom. Marble and granite cladding echoes the regularity of the surrounding buildings but are manipulated into different shapes and angles which imbues the facade with a sense of movement.
